NRIMS

NSW Government Website

The Data Framework Thesaurus is a structured classification of environmental and natural resources data and maps which will provide easy drill-down access to core/priority data and applications in the new CANRI website and under the Natural Resource Management Framework. The thesaurus will be used by NSW natural resource sector agencies and the community allowing an improved sharing and understanding of natural resource maps and data.

More about the Data Framework Thesaurus ...

The Thesaurus is based on two authoritative sources:

  • ISO Standard 19115 - the 19 Topic Categories in ISO's Draft International Standard 19115 (Geographic information - Metadata), and
  • the Generalised Multi-Lingual Environmental Thesaurus (GEMET) developed by the European Environment Agency which is a general thesaurus to define a common general language.

The Data Framework Thesaurus is key product of the NRIMS Strategy 2002-05 and is an important part of the Information Management Framework.

The Thesaurus is an excel spreadsheet and includes 3 worksheets:

  • How To use - A brief description
  • Data Groupings - The Thesaurus itself which can be collapsed or expanded to the level required
  • Definitions (ISO Categories) - Definitions, descriptions and examples of the 19 ISO categories

In addition to providing the ANZLIC dataset name the thesaurus provides:

Eg.Dataset: Abalone Catch and Effort Database

Level 1: Biodiversity
  Level 2: Fauna
     Level 3: Invertebrate

Custodian: Fisheries
ANZLIC Metadata record: ANZNS0364000001
